Questions about compatibility

What is a compatibility reading?

It compares two complete birth charts — not just two sun signs — and looks at the angles between one person's planets and the other's (astrologers call this synastry). MoonSignal reads that comparison across six channels of an actual relationship: communication, emotional connection, values, conflict and repair, closeness, and long-term rhythm. We treat it as a mirror for reflection about a dynamic, not a verdict on whether two people belong together.

How is this not just sun-sign compatibility?

Sun-sign compatibility compares one twelfth of all people to another twelfth. It is the same answer for millions of pairs. This reading uses both of your full charts. That means Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, plus the rising sign when both birth times are known, and the exact angles between them. Two couples with the same pair of sun signs will not read the same here, because the rest of their charts differ.

Is this compatibility calculator free?

Yes. No account, no email, no card. You enter two sets of birth details and get your reading: both people's Sun, Moon and Rising, all six channels with the exact aspect measured behind each one, the two channels that matter most opened up in full, and what each of your charts brings to the bond.

Do you store our birth data?

No. This page computes both charts and the whole reading in your browser. Neither person's birth data is sent to our servers, logged, or saved. The details stay in this browser tab so you can move between pages without retyping them, and they're gone when you close it.

What if we don't know one of the birth times?

Check "I don't know the birth time" and you still get most of the reading — communication, emotional connection, values, and conflict and repair all work without it. The Moon moves up to about 13° a day, so without a birth time its exact position is uncertain, and the two channels the Moon actually carries (closeness, long-term rhythm) stay locked rather than guessed. Add the time later and they unlock.

Does a "tender spot" mean we are incompatible?

No. A tender spot marks a channel where the two of you translate more than you telepathically understand — where misreads tend to start. Plenty of long, close relationships have two or three of them. It points at where to slow down, not at whether to stay.

Why is there no percentage score?

Because a percentage would be a made-up number. Nothing was measured to get to "eighty-seven percent compatible". A score also tempts you to accept or reject a person on a figure nobody can defend. We show which channels flow and which need work, in words you can act on.

Why would a quiz change which pattern I get?

Each of the twelve patterns is scored from two things: your birth chart, and how you answer five short questions. This page has only the chart, no account, no quiz. So the pattern named here is the one your placements lean toward hardest. Your own answers carry close to as much weight as the geometry, so they often change which pattern comes out on top. Neither read is wrong. The chart says what you are set up for; your answers say what is running now. Your Blueprint is the version with both.

Can I use this for friends, family, colleagues, or my boss?

Yes, and the reading changes when you do. There are six types: partner, friend, family member, colleague, boss and ex. The one you pick reframes the six channels for that context. "Closeness and intimacy" becomes "trust and reliability" for a colleague, and "candor and trust" for a boss. It also picks the text for the pattern the two of you share, and the line about what helps. So the same two charts read differently depending on which relationship you are in.

What actually gets compared

Both charts are worked out first. Then every angle that counts between one person's Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn and the other's is measured. When both birth times are known, one more contact joins them: a Sun or Moon sitting on the other person's rising degree. Tight angles count for more than loose ones. Easy angles and hard ones are weighed on their own. Those angles decide which of the six channels read as strong, balanced, or tender. The wording never picks the level; the angles do. When your two charts form no angle at all in a channel, it reads quiet rather than being rounded up to balanced. Nothing was measured there, and saying so is more useful than making one up.

Why the type of bond changes the reading

The same Venus–Mars angle means something different between partners than between colleagues. So the six channels are renamed for the context you choose. There are six contexts: partner, friend, family member, colleague, boss and ex. The pattern the two of you share, and the line about what helps, is written separately for each one. The geometry underneath does not move; what it is taken to mean does. When you pick the honest label, you get the useful reading.

Why birth times matter here

The Moon travels up to about 13° a day. Without a birth time we can still say which sign it was in most of the day, but not its exact degree. Exact degrees are what angles are made of. Rather than quietly guess, we keep the two channels the Moon carries locked until you have both times. Those are closeness and long-term rhythm. The other four are built from planets that barely move in a day, so they read fine without them.

What this can — and can't — tell you

It describes tendencies in a bond. It shows where the two of you understand each other with ease, where you need to translate, and which pattern each of you tends to bring. It does not predict whether a relationship lasts. It does not score two people against each other. It is not couples therapy, and it does not take the place of a real talk. If you want to see what your own placements tend to do on their own, that's what the pattern library is for.
